Lafayette’s HD-45 race heats up

Two candidates for HD-45, currently held by term-limited Rep. Joel Robideaux, have already come forward to launch their campaigns. The candidates are real estate attorney Jean-Paul Coussan and insurance agent Andre Comeaux. Jan Swift, an economic development executive, is rumored to join these two in the race for HD-45.  

 Meet the HD-45 Candidates


Andre Comeaux is a risk management consultant and business insurance broker for Regions Insurance Inc., where he serves as senior vice president of the firm.

Comeaux has a degree in mechanical engineering from UL-Lafayette and is an active community member. He has participated in the past campaigns of Republican state Reps. Nancy Landry and Joel Robideaux, and was involved in the successful effort to establish LUS Fiber in 2005.



Jean-Paul Coussan is a Lafayette attorney and partner at the real estate title company Andrus Boudreaux.

The civically engaged Coussan is an STM and LSU alumnus who was recently named one of The Daily Advertiser’s Top 20 Under 40. He is a board member of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and has served five years on the Cajundome Commission.





Jan Swift has served as executive director for Upper Lafayette Economic Development Foundation since January 2008. She is a graduate of LSU and LSU Law School and serves on the Board of Directors of the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum at UL – Lafayette.  

Swift served a three year term on the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and continues to be involved as a chamber member. She also serves on the I-49 South Task Force appointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal.
