Judge Marilyn Castle endorsed for State Supreme Court

Baton Rouge, La. – The four political action committees of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), today announced their endorsement of Judge Marilyn Castle in the race to replace retiring Justice Jeanette Theriot Knoll on the Louisiana Supreme Court. The election is in November 2016.

“After a series of interviews and many hours of careful consideration, WESTPAC, EASTPAC, NORTHPAC and SOUTHPAC unanimously decided to endorse Judge Castle,” Brian Landry, the vice president of political action for LABI, said. “Judge Castle’s courtroom experience, judicial temperament and proven leadership abilities will make her an excellent addition to the state’s high court.”

District three of the Louisiana Supreme Court, which is currently held by Justice Knoll, covers eight parishes in the southwest portion of the state from Calcasieu to Avoyelles.

Judge Castle currently serves as Chief Judge of the 15th Judicial District Court, having been elected to that court in 1998. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from the Louisiana State University Law Center in 1976. She served as an assistant district attorney from 1976 to 1979, and she was engaged in private practice from 1979 until her election to the bench.

In addition, Judge Castle has served as president of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, on the Board of Governors and House of Delegates of the Louisiana State Bar Association and as a member of the steering committee of the Citizen’s Summit on Justice Reform. She is a Fellow of the Louisiana State Bar Foundation and a Founding Master of the John M. Duhe Chapter of the American Inns of Court. She currently serves as first vice president of the Louisiana District Judges Association.

Judge Castle is running against Judge James T. Genovese who currently serves on the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal.
